Episode 1: The Vanishing

A shimmer surge pulls Rita from 2024 into a town where time is broken — and watching.

Rita Woodley, a neurodivergent janitor at a secretive 2024 science lab (STP), is caught in a shimmer surge a silent, pulsing anomaly and vanishes. She reawakens in 1924 Moonveil, disoriented and unmedicated, in a version of her hometown twisted by time and secrecy. As she tries to blend in, she’s taken in by Dr. Berquist, a town physician haunted by unexplained phenomena. Rita soon meets Maggie, a sharp-witted historian, and Eliza, the no-nonsense hardware store owner who hires her.

In the present, scientists scramble to understand what happened. Rita’s parents press for answers. Meanwhile, in 1924, she notices flickers in her environment shifts in reality, strange energy, and a boy on a bike who seems to exist outside of time. Her only clue is the shimmer, and the growing feeling that she hasn’t just traveled through time she’s become tethered to something far stranger.

Episode 2: The Fracture

As reality glitches around her, Rita begins to bond and to unravel.

Still shaken, Rita begins to find her footing in Moonveil while experiencing increasingly unnerving shimmer effects glitching electronics, warped reflections, and warnings from the town’s so-called “ghost,” Billy. She grows closer to Berquist, who becomes invested in her story, and to Maggie, whose loyalty strengthens. But a sudden shimmer pulse rattles the town, and Rita’s grasp on time weakens further.

Meanwhile, STP scientists in 2024 begin detecting erratic signals that suggest Rita is not only alive but influencing the shimmer from her side. At the same time, reporter Harlan digs into a past disappearance and uncovers signs of previous shimmer contact. The episode ends with a chilling ripple of reality rewriting itself around Rita, as the shimmer’s true scale begins to unfold.

Episode 3: The Call

Secrets surface, timelines bend, and Rita hears a voice she never thought she’d hear again.

Rita reveals the truth about her origins to Maggie, and the fallout is immediate. Maggie is shaken, but a shimmer-related incident where a customer visibly ages in front of them confirms that something bigger is at play. Billy confronts Rita with a cryptic warning: she’s disrupted the shimmer’s purpose, and now it’s watching her. Meanwhile, Berquist and Maggie begin questioning their own belief systems as the town’s fabric starts to shift.

In 2024, Dr. Kim and Graves detect structured shimmer pulses signals that resemble messages. As they uncover signs of corporate interference by Veil Kinetics, Rita’s great-grandfather unknowingly appears in 1924, creating a temporal rift. The episode ends with Harlan’s suicide, Winslow’s unraveling, and a breakthrough: Rita decodes a shimmer message from her mother across time, suggesting not just connection but two-way communication.
